Mushroom and lentil stew
The mushrooms echo the earthy scent and the lentils give the tannins something to meet.

Dario Prinčič, Friuli, Italy
Blackberry and a little chocolate, with the earthy smell of fallen leaves. There is a firm grip, but a fresh edge keeps this red moving. Open it when dinner is going slowly and nobody is watching the clock.
You’ll notice the earthy side beneath the blackberry fruit.
If you like a fresh red with blackberry fruit and a firmer grip, try this earthy Merlot-led blend.
Macerated in open vats and aged in large wooden barrels and steel.

SOMETHING SIMPLE
Savoury sage suits the forest-leaf notes, while pork softens the firm grip.
FOR SHARING
The firm cheese stands up to the texture without hiding the blackberry fruit.
Mushroom and lentil stew brings the earthy side of the wine into focus.
A sweet fruit sauce can hide the forest-leaf note and make the grip feel firmer.

The producer
Dario Prinčič began bottling his own wines in 1993, after years tending vines in Oslavia on the Italian-Slovenian border. His whites spend extended time with their skins, then settle into used wooden barrels. Hand harvesting, biodynamic farming practices and minimal additions underpin a family approach that helped make this corner of Friuli a reference point for orange wine.
