La Lèna

Colle Florido, Abruzzo, Italy

La Lèna 2022

  • Watermelon
  • Red berries
  • Cashew

Watermelon and red berries, with a little cashew in the background. The colour is deep for a rosé, yet it feels gentle and light on the tongue. There is a small wild edge to explore while an afternoon picnic turns into evening.

You’ll notice how gentle it feels despite the deeper colour.

If you like light reds and juicy rosés, this darker Montepulciano rosé sits between the two.

Fermented and matured partly in stainless steel and partly in wooden barrels.

FOR THE PICNIC

Cured ham with melon

The salty ham makes room for the juicy fruit, without needing a heavy red.

FROM THE GRILL

Grilled sea bass with cherry tomatoes

The gentle texture suits the fish and the lively fruit meets the tomatoes.

A QUICK SUPPER

Pasta with courgette and fresh ricotta

The mild sauce lets the watermelon and red berries show.

Also good

A plate of cured ham and melon plays alongside its juicy fruit.

Skip

A heavy peppercorn sauce can hide the watermelon and gentle texture.

Colle Florido: Andrea and Daniela’s living corner of Abruzzo

Andrea Ugolotti and Daniela Trolio built Colle Florido around the hills of Pianella, where vineyards sit among olives, gardens, pasture and woodland. Andrea brought a sommelier’s experience; Daniela designed their naturally cool wooden cellar. Clay and limestone, Adriatic breezes and the nearby Apennines frame their work with Montepulciano and Trebbiano, with biodiversity as much a part of the farm as the vines.
