The people behind the bottle

Two Greek agronomists, Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and Leon Karatsalos, founded Gaia in 1994 to explore what local grapes could do. Their two homes make a striking pairing: the limestone hills of Nemea and volcanic Santorini. Agiorgitiko and Assyrtiko lead the way, with experiments in wild fermentation and clay ageing widening the possibilities.
