Operaio ICARO, Genzano di Roma 2023
Why it's worth a try
Operaio is a wild, unfiltered red from Lazio’s volcanic soils. Fermented on skins with minimal intervention, it’s rustic and electric, packed with dark cherry, cracked pepper, and a gritty mineral backbone. This one grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go.
ICARO, Genzano
di Roma
Reckless wines from Rome

ICARO is a small, passionate project focused on rediscovering the wines of Castelli Romani, a volcanic region near Rome. Founded with the goal of making these wines accessible, ICARO strives to connect people with the land and the unique, natural wines it produces. The winery fosters a community of like-minded producers, wine shops, and venues dedicated to keeping things simple and real.
ICARO’s wines are crafted from indigenous grapes grown in the volcanic soils of Castelli Romani. Using minimal intervention, they aim to produce wines that are pure, approachable, and true to the land. ICARO’s mission is to make these wines fun, relatable, and enjoyed by everyone.
WINE REGION
Lazio: Ancient Vineyards & Rome’s Wine Country

Lazio, the region surrounding Rome, produces about 1.8 million hectoliters of wine annually. While not as famous as Tuscany, it has over 400 wineries and a deep winemaking history dating back to ancient Rome.

Best known for crisp white wines like Frascati (made from Malvasia and Trebbiano), but also home to intriguing reds like Cesanese.

Volcanic soils from ancient eruptions give Lazio’s wines a unique mineral character. Rolling hills and a Mediterranean climate create fresh, vibrant wines.
